A little piece of Lille in Tuscany
Posted on September 19 2010
On the Tuscan part of our Italian tour, we stayed at a sweet B & B just outside of San Gimignano, called Hotel Vecchio Asilo. It being our 3rd wedding anniversary, we knew we wanted to buy each other a present in Italy, and since the traditional gift for the 3 year mark is leather, we decided that some handmade luggage would be an appropriate choice. Tuscany is known for high quality leather goods, and we were lucky enough to stumble upon an amazing gem of a shop in the sweet tourist trap that is San Gimignano. Alberto, the owner of Le Torri, employs the same philosophy that I do in running and owning a retail shop: that it is "like a miracle" when our customers find us and appreciate the quality construction and attention to detail to which our artisans dedicate their lives. Alan and I learned more about leather and bag making in the 20 or so minutes we spent with Alberto than you can imagine. We felt so lucky to have found him. When I get back, I'll post photos of his shop, including some signs that would be right at home posted at Lille.
