Celebrating Black History Month
Posted on February 01 2021

February marks the start of Black History Month, a time to celebrate the countless contributions Black Americans have made to this country and a time to reflect on the continued struggle for racial justice as we seek a more inclusive and tolerant future.
The past year has exposed the seedy underbelly of bigotry and racism that runs rampant through the United States. Of course, for Black Americans, this is not new information. But for those of us indulging our white privilege, however, we were forced to acknowledge what we have had the advantage to ignore. The wounds have been split open and it is important now more than ever that we do the work.
Throughout February, Lille will participate in Black History Month by focusing on past and present Black Americans that have blazed trails through and around obstacles in their path. We'll feature our favorite artists, creators, designers, and activists that have made their mark with passion and bravery. We also will share ways to be proactive and participate on your own with local events and fundraisers occurring within Portland.
Happy February and Happy Black History Month!
