Giving Back: Oregon Food Bank
Posted on April 14 2020
This month, we’re celebrating Lille’s anniversary in a very different way compared to previous years. We can’t throw a big birthday bash (however we are considering a Zoom gathering—BYO of course). However, one Lille Anniversary tradition we are gladly able to uphold is donating to an organization in our community. This year we chose to give back to Oregon Food Bank.
OFB is an organization that is always prepared for a crisis but as with many essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are having to face a new set of challenges. Despite these unforeseen difficulties, they remain courageously dedicated to serving the needs of the community amid an ever-evolving crisis.
Operating since 1988, OFB collects food from farmers, manufacturers, retailers, individuals and government resources and distributes it to a vast network of regional food banks in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, OFB has taken critical steps to protect their volunteers and the community they serve. They have postponed or canceled all large-group gatherings, including volunteer shifts of more than 10 people. They have also shifted their training and education programs online and encouraged volunteers over 60 or in other higher-risk groups to stay home safe. Working with food, they already maintain very stringent safety standards and in addition to those standards, OFB has increased the frequency of deep-cleaning and sanitization as well as other steps to ensure the safety of donated food.
In a message from OFB’s CEO Susannah Morgan on facing the COVID-19 crisis she says, “We have to be prepared for a long haul. But our community has been so incredibly generous and so incredibly giving and that gives me hope that together we will emerge stronger. Thank you.”
We are collecting donations for OFB through our online store and will be matching each and every donation we receive on their behalf. If you can, add a $20 donation to OFB to your next Lille order or simply donate the $20 without having to purchase anything from us and your donation will go further.
Let’s band together and #EmergeStronger
