Guest Post—Rachel Rector's Impressions at Lingerie Fashion Week

Lille Boutique is truly a lingerie boutique that curates an ever-evolving and expansive collection of lingerie from all over the world. The shop is thoughtfully stocked with a vast assortment of classic labels like Hanro and Wolford, high-end designers such as Morgan Lane, and youthful and affordable brands like Only Hearts and TEN. This makes it especially interesting to see how large fashion events like Lingerie Fashion Week in New York try to curate a platform of designers that speak to trends in the lingerie market. The difference, however, is that designers must pay to be included in these fashion events, which tends to shift the conversation away from "what's fresh" to "who can afford to advertise." At LFW, traces of generic underwear are seen on the catwalk, while more interesting indie designers show in presentations (imagine ten models under spotlights for an hour) or on a mannequin in a "Ones to Watch" segment. Alternatively, you can do what I did: infiltrate the party wearing your own lingerie designs! Check out the photo above; I was a volunteering as a dresser behind-the-scenes (and wearing the Ray Bodysuit) when Dani Read asked me to take the stage, assisting models to their blocks. Naturally, the Leo in me adored the spotlight! Here are a few trends from independent designers at LFW: 1. Sparkling accessories 2. Hot Goths & Spring Bondage 3. Sheer Patterned Bodysuits Psst...We have this Naïs bodysuit in stock. 4. Silk Charmeuse: Victorian & Flapper Chic Rachel Rector is a lingerie designer based in New York. Read about her experience launching an independent lingerie brand. All photos c/o Lingerie Fashion Week.
