Halloween Inspiration: American Horror Story: Coven
Posted on October 11 2013
The classic witch is a Halloween standby, and I predict we'll see more of them this year thanks to the latest installment of American Horror Story. Always as entertaining as it is distasteful and irreverent, the show promises to be campy and fun this season with the focus back where it belongs on Jessica Lange in a bitchy diva role. If I opted for this costume, I'd quote her all night long! Of course, you can wear any old black dress with some fishnets and boots and call it a a day, but we like to look at this as a good excuse to invest in some new black staples for your wardrobe. Depending on the character you've created, she could fall anywhere on the Bewitched to Elvira spectrum, so you can cover up as much or as little as you like. The Copper Lace Dress by Only Hearts is a great option for chilly nights, and you can layer it with a slip if you're feeling modest. On the skimpier side, but still tasteful, is the Silk Charmeuse Long Slip, or it's sluttier cousin, the Mini Slip, and the Colette Long Gown, which you could layer with the witchy Colette Long Kimono Robe for warmth. You could also get slinky and seductive with the Whisper Cage Bodysuit or the Cut Out Garter Dress, which necessitates stockings--conveniently enough, we've just restocked our best-sellers from Gerbe and Maison Close. Just add a few accessories like a pointy hat, eyemask and cuffs for a complete ensemble, grab a sleek black umbrella, rain or shine, and you're ready to cast some spells!
