Halloween Inspiration: Chicago
Posted on October 19 2012
Anything from 'The Roaring '20s' holds a special place in our hearts, and the 70s revival of that era is often even better, because it combines the sex-positive, natural shapes of garters, soft cup bralettes, tap pants and teddies with a geometric disco/boogie sensibility, apparent in the costuming of any Bob Fosse production. So it is with great pleasure that we present our myriad options for a Chicago-themed Halloween Costume! Start with Lonely's amazing Cut-Out Bra to channel sexy but deadly chanteuse Velma Kelly. Pair that with lace gauntlets by Maison Close and some Wolford fishnets, with your favorite pair of Remix Vintage Shoes for a head-to-toe vamp look that can be coupled with any basic skirt or slip and, of course, the perfect bob wig. Roxy Hart requires a big more finesse, but we think the dramatic silk Jade Long Robe by Beautiful Bottoms is a great place to start. A romper like the matching Jade Playsuit or the Charlotte Teddy certainly strikes the right Flapper notes, but you could also opt for the Lola Petticoat Pants over tights and a bodysuit. The perfect hairstyle is key here, so make sure you know someone who can do Finger Waves for true authenticity. Props like guns, canes, bowler hats and chairs will also be useful, but perhaps the most important element of this costume is a willingness to burst into song and dance at strategic moments throughout the night. Practice your jazz hands, ladies!
