Halloween Inspiration: Stars of the Silver Screen
Posted on October 21 2013
I seem to be the master of obscure Halloween costumes that elicit a quizzical, searching expression from the viewer, followed by, "Cool costume....who are you exactly?" but I don't really have a problem with that. I've always loved donning vintage attire to channel stars of the silver screen like Audrey Hepburn, Louise Brooks and Marlene Dietrich (twice--once in grey scale!) If you already find yourself with a closet full of vintage clothing and a yearning to look more sophisticated than a sexy nurse, then this is an easy category for you to dive into. It just so happens that we have an abundance of lingerie and loungewear that fits into the "old Hollywood glamour" department, so if you're in need of that one special piece to tie the costume together, be sure to stop by soon. We think the silk Andrea PJs by Princesse Tam Tam would be ideal for a Katharine Hepburn costume, and the Ellie Leaping Robe by Stella McCartney would make a great cover-up over the elegant Cadel Slip by Araks if you want to go a little slinkier. The Casablanca Chemise by Elle Macpherson is more Veronica Lake than Ingrid Bergman, in my opinion, but either way it works. Platinum blondes could add a feather boa or a fur wrap to any sexy slip like the Duo, Exotic Plume or Soie Chemise to channel Jean Harlow or Marilyn Monroe. You could vamp it up as Mae West in the Fortnight Mira, provided you have the rack. And the Metallic Luxe and Aqua Robes by Beautiful Bottoms have the diaphanous qualities of Greta Garbo's attire, as do Ari Dein's airy silk chemises. But we can't forget about the gentlemen: our Pointelle alpaca sweater by Skin would be a perfect centerpiece for an Ed Wood costume, don't you think?
