Halloween Inspiration: The Castaways
I'll never forget the year I went as Ginger from Gilligan's Island, with my friends in tow as Maryann, Gilligan, and the Skipper too. We actually won the costume contest! This is an easy last-minute group idea, because you just need a thin guy, a chubby guy, a vixen and a girl-next-door. The vixen is obviously the most fun, because you can wear a glamorous evening gown, a slinky silk slip like the Clara Whispering Chemise from Stella McCartney, or a cute bikini, and you get to accessorize with costume jewelry and high heels. The girl-next-door can also wear a bathing suit, something gingham, or anything cotton with high-waisted shorts. We're partial to the vintage-inspired swimwear by Malia Mills, and everything she makes fits the bill for this inspiration. The "Love the One You're With" Camisole by Only Hearts seems tailor made for Maryann, and the High-Waisted Majorette short is modest enough to wear out on the town. Just be sure to bring along a piece of wood with "S. S. Minnow" scrawled on it, and you'll be a shoe-in at any costume contest!
