Halloween Inspiration: The Runaways
Posted on October 23 2012
If you're looking for a group costume for you and a few of your BFFs, look no further than '70s all-girl rock band, The Runaways. Famous for launching the career of Joan Jett and causing riots and mass hysteria at sold out shows in Japan, this raucous group of trailblazing women paved the way for many successful female bands in the decades that followed, though their credibility is somewhat marred by the fact that lead singer, Cherie Currie often appeared onstage in nothing but lingerie. Their brief but illustrious career produced such hits as "Cherry Bomb" and "Queens of Noise." Channel these punk rock babes in the strappy Cut Out Bra or Cut Out Bustier by Lonely with a pair of bell bottoms and platform shoes. You could also opt for the Villa Satine Push Up Bodice by Maison Close with cut-off fishnet stockings and not much else, or the Royale Bodysuit or Bralette by The Lake and Stars with a leather mini-skirt on the bottom. If you're lucky, you'll manage to dig up a Ziggy Stardust-inspired silver pantsuit, but those are few and far between, so the skilled ones among you might choose to make your own. Whatever you do, don't forget to grab a guitar, feather your hair and load up on the eyeliner. For even more inspiration, watch The Runaways movie with Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart.
