I think everyone in the lingerie/loungewear industry faced a conundrum when the term "Basic B***h" became ubiquitous. It's hilarious and spot-on, to be sure, but how else do you refer to the workhorse staples in your underpinnings wardrobe? There is no better word for them than basics, but it's got such a stigma attached to it! We're reframing the category to "essentials" to define those garments, without which, we would be lost. Add to that term the adjective "luxurious" and you've got a recipe for instagram hyperbole, but truly, we believe in these pieces!
There is no way to compare the long-spun pima cotton fibers that the good people at Skin hand source with the stuff that somehow makes it into the big box stores of the world under the same term. The natural fibers in their essentials collection are perfect for sensitive skin types. They allow your body to breathe. They don't steal moisture from your skin, and the fibers are durable and long-lasting.
Next on our list of 'Must-Have' Luxurious Essentials is anything by French brand Baserange, whose organic cotton lingerie and loungewear has a cult following! If your budget doesn't accommodate imports, look no further than NYC darlings, Only Hearts, who have been making quality underpinnings in the Garment Industry since 1978. Their organic cotton and silk options are an excellent budget-friendly introduction to the world of grown up lingerie!
If natural fibers are not your bag, be sure to check out Yasmine Eslami's sublime collection of perfect French lingerie. It fits like a glove and gives you that 'Je ne sais quoi' that muses like Jeanne Damas enjoy in spades. Likewise, the second-skin nature of the Satin Seduction collection by Epure for Lise Charmel gave Eres a run for its money and had me converted on day one. My absolute favorite bra (post-nursing my daughter, because pre-baby it had to have been Stella McCartney's Eve Giggling, but the girls just don't stand up the way they used to) is their Demi Cup bra, which offers the most incredible lift without all the hefty padding of a push up bra and features delicate Calais lace trim. If you're still in the pre- or 'not-interested-in-nursing-whatsoever' camp, (no judgment!) then be sure to check out the Else Bare collection. Like the aforementioned Eve Giggling, this barely there bra gives you what I like to refer to as "French boob" which is just a natural, un-padded shape that is the antithesis of American Mall Bras.
