Mad about Mad Men...but not the lingerie
Posted on October 09 2008
I hesitate to post this, because I'm a little scared of the backlash, but I really need to speak my mind. I am a rabid Mad Men fan, but I truly abhor most lingerie from the late 50s to early 60s. Every time I see poor Betty smoking pensively in her nylon negligee, I picture it going up in flames. Those filmy, blousey peignoirs in optimistic shades of mint, butter and salmon with their tacky bows and ruffles just make me sad. I can't help but think of the depressing reality that was the life of a housewife in that era. I know I talk a lot about vintage and vintage-inspired lingerie on this blog, but the Dupont Decade is one I'd just as soon skip over.
