New Arrival: Erica Tanov Lingerie
Posted on August 27 2009
We're bubbling with excitement about the arrival of Erica Tanov's gorgeous silk slips, camisoles, pajama pants and socks. Like Araks, Erica launched her own line of lingerie before delving into outerwear. Her emphasis on fine fabrics, meticulous construction and unique details has garnered her an enthusiastic fan following. A California native with a degree from Parsons, Erica clearly draws inspiration from both coasts, creating floaty, floral-print dresses and cozy, vintage-inspired cardigans that have a touch of the Lyell sensibility, but are far less austere. To me, her designs are the epitome of cool girl bohemian artist chic - you know the type...she shops at thrift stores but mixes in designer pieces, and through expert layering manages to always look pulled together, but it never looks like she's trying too hard. I could see Don Draper's free-spirited ex-girlfriend Midge (played by the phenomenal Rosemary DeWitt, whose presence on the show is sorely missed!) lounging around her pad in these fabulous duds. Though I tend to veer towards a sober and buttoned-up aesthetic in my everyday style, looking at this collection makes me aspire to a more carefree, easygoing way of dressing, employing a Dorothy Draper-esque color palette, piling on the scarves and not being so scared of prints. But I digress...
The slips! They are cut on the bias, made from 100% silk, with french seams, beautiful trim and darts in all the right places. They remind me of a particular vintage slip I wore to death in college that fit me perfectly - I've never been able to find a replacement until now! I plan to get the Lola Signature Petal Silk Slip in Bittersweet, which is a deep eggplant shade with ivory lace trim that could easily be worn as a dress. We also received the Lola in a Tea-Rose colored Crepe de Chine that would make the perfect nude slip for sheer garments. Coming soon: the Haddon (pictured above), Lolita, Jules and socks, glorious socks! Stay tuned.
