Our namesake

Our namesake
Lille Boutique is named after the quaint French town of the same name, known for textiles and a tiny bobbin lace that was made there a century ago. While not nearly as prolific in lace production as the city in my last entry, the town itself has a lot more interesting architecture and character than Calais. We stopped there on our whirlwind tour of France for the Braderie de Lille, the biggest flea market in all of Europe. I participated in the tradition of eating a huge pot of moules frites, along with the 1.5 million other people who came for the festival. This was our first trip to Lille, but we definitely plan to return - perhaps without the crowds, when the atmosphere of the city is likely to remind us more of the peaceful oasis of the shop and less of the crushing mob of Canal Street in NYC.
