R.A.W. by Rio Wrenn

Please join us this evening from 6-9pm for the trunk show/exhibition of Rio Wrenn’s new work in fibers using rusting techniques. She will be debuting new styles from R.A.W., her line of Victorian-inspired lingerie, which was the audience favorite at the Portland Mercury Installations fashion show this year. Wrenn creates wearable art using such varied materials as plants, insects and rust to elicit rich, earthy tones on natural fibers. The process of aging and decay is a big inspiration for Wrenn, who seeks to connect with the earth and the traditions of the past through her work. This strong sense of history imbues her pieces with a tribal sensibility that is at once visceral and tangible. Beyond these tactile qualities lies a more cerebral goal: she hopes to create a dialogue on sustainability that will encourage society to reflect upon the ways in which we utilize our resources. We hope you will join us to have a glass of wine, talk to the artist and admire her work!
