Since the dawn of Lille, I’ve written 13 editions of Holiday Gift Guides--through election years, recessions and burst bubbles...but no year has been quite like 2020. This year saw the close of our beloved Brick and Mortar, which was a hard but necessary decision I had to make to protect my employees and the future of our online business. The sad thing is, we can no longer see your smiling faces and revel in our mutual love of fine underpinnings over a cup of tea with “Last Christmas" playing in the background, but we are working hard to translate the in-store experience to our new online identity, and that means services like Virtual Appointments, Online Chat and Wish Lists are more important than ever. We hope you’ll reach out to us if you need any guidance, like so many of you did in person over the past 13 years. I can’t tell you how many times we have all basked in the glow of a happy customer leaving the store with a beautifully wrapped Lille box containing something hand-picked and laboriously deliberated over, having consulted our trusty database of customer purchases to find a woman’s perfect size (which can vary by brand) and her past loves (“Megan swooned over this set last time she stopped by! I know it’s on her wish list…”) The good news is, we still have our database! So don’t hesitate to contact us via email, chat or social media with questions.
I hope you’ll find my own personal list of favorites useful. Keep in mind that I am a 42 year old mother of a 6 year old, just trying to make it through a day of Virtual Market Appointments and juggling my kid’s remote learning schedule. Here are the things that keep me smiling!
When people ask me what my all time favorite bra is, I always point them in the direction of Epure by Lise Charmel and Bare by Else. The uplifting Satin Seduction Demi Bra and the insouciant Bare Underwire Bra have a prominent place in my lingerie cabinet. (I own both in every color!) For women who love luxury lingerie, I also recommend checking out the Noelle Wolf Collection.
These days, I’m living in loungewear. But there’s a big difference between sweats from the big box store and a quality pair from a boutique. Nothing says “adulting” like a proper pair of elegant pajamas. At the very tippety top of my list of must-have lounge pieces that go from day to night are anything by Skin—the ultra long organic pima cotton fibers make the garments super soft and durable, so they’ll justify their price tag. I’m also loving the new Jacquard separates by Samantha Chang, which can easily be worn as ready to wear. For the environmentally conscious gal on your list, look no further than the sustainable options from Underprotection.
Swimwear has taken a much more prominent position in my closet since I moved to Los Angeles. My favorite pieces are from Yasmine Eslami and Else. Although none of us are vacationing anywhere tropical anytime soon, you can still dream, and a quality suit in a timeless cut is something worth investing in.
Finally, you can’t go wrong with a classic silk slip or camisole. Whether you’re shopping for your wife or your mother, she will appreciate the luxe quality of the material and the functionality it offers her wardrobe.
