Shapewear for the Holidays

'Tis the season for overindulging, so if that slinky little cocktail dress you bought for your company's holiday party is less than forgiving, you might want to consider investing in a shapewear piece. I've never been a huge fan of this category of lingerie, since most of it tends to be constrictive, synthetic and incredibly ugly, but you should know that there are alternatives to that ubiquitous department store brand, which shall remain nameless, that has been known to strangle your thighs to the point of redness and itching. Recent innovations in the shapewear industry have resulted in a new range of products that feature natural fibers, pretty silhouettes and functionality without sacrificing comfort. Yummie is a great example of this category of shapewear, since they use cotton in many of their garments and infuse their designs with a sense of style so you don't look like you're wearing your granny's girdle. We're big fans of the Devina Slip, pictured here, which uses airy, paper-thin fabric that slims and smooths your body, but feels like you’re wearing next to nothing. The clever addition of underwire in the bodice gives you added support, and soft silicone trim keeps it in place so you can dance the night away without looking like "two pigs fighting under a blanket."
