What does lingerie mean to Lille?
Posted on April 21 2020
At Lille, it’s always been at the core of what we do to fully embrace the fact that wearing lingerie transcends “looking sexy for someone else”. All of the incredible answers we received on yesterday’s giveaway post are a beautiful testament to what lingerie is and can be for all of us. A common thread that we’ve seen in your responses is that lingerie has the power to transform how we look at ourselves.
We live in a society where we are constantly inundated with toxic messaging that tells us we are not good enough. We begin to feel as though our physical appearance is under constant attack by everyone from large corporations targeting our insecurities to well-meaning family members gathered around dinner tables. I’d be surprised if there was a single person on this planet who hasn’t had periodic negative or critical thoughts about their body or presentation, because we’re fed the narrative that beauty is singular and that it’s damn near unattainable for real people.
Lingerie is so special in that it converses with our bodies, with our sexuality, with our boundaries. It is such a gift to be able to look at oneself with a fresh set of eyes; to replace that cruel and critical lens with one of gratitude, pride, and empowerment. It’s truly been the most rewarding experience to foster an environment where we can help others see themselves for what they are. Our boutique is a love letter to all you powerful, righteous bad asses who just need a little encouragement. Flaws and all, our bodies (or as I like to call them flesh vessels) deserve to be celebrated for housing us through it all!
